Only Pure & Authentic Quality Tea

Simplicity

To feel
Simply feel what you really have felt;

To understand
Recognize what has happened, to accept by knowing what can handle, what can not

To forgive
Forgiveness doesn’t mean brain dead, but simply recognise the only you can change is yourself;

To commit
Because there is no other choice if you would like to make a change;

To make a closure,
First learn what and how to pick up, then understand what and how to lay down.

Message from a mother

Here is a message to my children, GuangYi (光義) and GuangRen (光仁):

When you become adult, don’t expect others to take responsibility for you or to protect you. As mother, I care and worry about you, because I am your mother; but there is nothing I can help you to achieve things in your life. Because it’s your journey that you have to manage how to move forwards on the path yourself.

Don’t expect respect from others, you need to earn it.

God only helps those who help themselves ! There are certain protocols in life because we all want to benefit from Laws and Order. In this case, then we all have to respect our social responsibilities before claiming rights.

It is your life, it is up to you to take your own actions and responsibilities honestly and seriously.

In different stage in life, you will make plans for achievements and you should do your best to achieve the best results at work, but you have to prepare to deal with surprises in life, because not everything is tangible and can be analysed and/or calculated.

One thing is sure, when you sit and wait, nothing will come.

When you can’t change the second before now, don’t expect by knowing the past can help you to solve problems today. Where to go and what to achieve in the future, it depends how you manage this moment, now.

Being able to do the calculation and to take advantages from others won’t make you smart. To take won’t make you rich, only when you share, can.

What comes around, goes around. Whether you believe it or not, there is a circle of life. We all will face our own respective destiny one day, sooner or later; time is tic-tac, won’t stand still and it is limited. It is better learn to take our own responsibilities and act cautiously with sincerity, honesty, calm and peace.

Basic Learning Attitude

Basic quality parameters has no cultural differences, it goes back to the basic :

  1. how tea garden is managed
  2. type of tea tree
  3. the health condition of tea tree
  4. tea picking
  5. tea processing and post processing

…………….. once tea is available, then we must examine our own actions:

  1. how much do I know about tea?
  2. do I know what and how to choose to drink?
  3. how much do I really know and respect  tea?
  4. do I know how to bring out the best characters from tea during the brewing?
  5. how much can I distinguish the quality  and the pure and authentic flavour and taste?

Last but at least, we must question ourselves : what do we really learn from tea? It depends on our learning attitude.

Not only in European market but also in the rest of the world today, let’s face it the market is dominated by aromatic flavored tea for simple reasons:

  1. How much tea importers/traders really know and love tea before the attraction of  ‘$$$”?
  2. Many only interest in “buying low, selling high”,
  3. There are still too much ‘funny’ stories about tea published in various media today
  4. There are still too much consumers don’t have the correct knowledge and information about tea

2008 Bu Lang Sheng Pu’erh

Under the greyish sky, it’s time to enjoy the calm and ease energy.  After a bowl of noddle, I said to myself that I need to have a cup of tea to stimulate the digestion. The fine image of Bada mountain and ZhangLang cottages that mentioned in the earlier blog still hanging in my memory.  So my mind was set for Pu’erh.

Instead of young Sheng Pu’erh, it’s time for old tea; instead of opening another dialogue page in mind, I chose the Sheng Pu’erh from ZhangLang made by Bu Lang tribe of 2008.

2008 Bu Lang Sheng Pu’erh

After so many years, can easily divide leaves from the cake.

It’s hard to describe that joyful feeling when smelling that mixture of refreshing fruity, betel nuts, mos and grassy notes; the only thought was “Yes, Yes, Yes”.

What I love about Sheng Pu’erh from Zhanglang made by Bu Lang tribe is when you first drink it, the taste was soft and smooth, but the mouth is quickly full with the astringent after taste and the after taste last long.

When brewing this 8 years old Sheng Pu’erh made from >100 years old tea tree with wood-fired ceramic tea ware, it’s like enjoying a dialogue that combine wisdom of five elements between two zen monks. The dialogue without speaking, simply enjoy peace and tranquillity in a moment of silence.

2017 Pu’erh (Sheng)

2017 Pu’erh tea is available. The market for Pu’erh this spring again is tricky, because the quantity is less due to the insufficient rain and frost. Luckily the weather showed her mercy before, during and after leaves were picked.

Expecting the price marks high this year, but I believe the quality is  interesting that worth for collection.

A no-so-good quality Pu’erh won’t become good-to-better quality pu’erh by the aging process through years of storage. It’s better to invest on good-to-better quality to have a reasonable stone to make a snow ball in the future.

Growing old together Pu’erh is fun and inspiring.

BaDa/ZhangLang Sheng Pu’erh

Region:

Tea cake is made from tea leaves from Zhanglang cottage and BaDa mountain region.  The average age of tea tree: >100 years old.

BaDa Mountain is one of the most
concentrated areas of ancient tea tree resources in Xishuangbanna, and there are more than 6,000 mu of original ancient tea tree.  Zhanglang is the largest family stockade of BuLang tribe.  The altitude is about 1750meters where have not only very rich resource for Puerh tea production, but also the cultural heritage is also obsessed by many people who appreciate tea and nature.

Flavour & Taste

BuLang Pu’er tea is known for its steady atmosphere, delicated flavor from the tea liquid. The taste is somewhat watery soft and smooth with slight bitter astringent taste; the after taste comes slowly in mouth but full of stamina that chants in your mind with its memorable flavor and taste.

Picking date: around 29/3/2017

Net weight: 200grams

In general, this year the region has ess rain after the Chinese New Year and the frost afterwards caused drops of fresh young leaves.  The quantity has drops about 40% but the demands are increased therefore the whole sales price increases more than double than last year. Even though the price is slightly higher this year, but the quality is worth for collection.

Why traditional oolong?

Today a Taiwanese friend drew a very interesting and excellent explanation why now is the best time to enjoy traditional Oolong:

In the time when the economic recovery is not yet up in speed, now is the best time for traditional oolong because of:
  1. More healthier – less caffeine
  2. Taste sweeter – more Tea Polysaccharide
  3. More cost effective – can enjoy more than 120 brewing of fine taste with 500grams even if you brewed tea in Gongfu style
  4. Heartthrob for everyone – Every one can enjoy its smooth and gentle taste and rhyme from the after taste

What does “Tea Master” mean?

Q: How long will it take to become a tea master?

A: I started to learn the importance of selecting tea and the relationship of tea in health with my mother when I was very young, and I only officially started to learn tea and Chinese tea culture in 1985. Today I am still learning and every cup inspires me.

Q: ???

A: It depends exactly what do you really want to learn and how much you think you have actually learned.

It’s easy to fall in love with tea, and it is easy to make a cup of tea. But once you start to learn and start to step into the door of tea, then you will soon realize there are much to learn, the width and depth are greater than what you can measure and accomplish.

Tea is not just a cup of tea, it is not just about learning the name of 6 type of tea and how to brew and/or to merchant. It is about learning the wisdom of Nature and tea, learning how to emerge with the true self and inner peace through a cup of tea. It is about learning how to sustain the right attitude in life. Starting from being truthful, honest and faithful with a child-like learning attitude.

The more I learned, the more I realize there are much to learn about tea and most importantly about me, myself, and life.

Tea master is not just a ‘job title’ but it’s about how I should continue to master the learning process with the right attitude, direction and devotion. It is not about being proud with the title, but it is about submitting to learning.

When you receive a certificate when completing the first basic module, it’s time for you to examine exactly how much you truly know. A piece of certificate is not an achievement award but just a PASSPORT for you to start the learning journey in life.

Q: When do you plan to retire?

A: The life is simply having too fun that keeps me moving forwards with cheerful attitude and healthy energy. Why bother to think of end line at the starting point?

Enjoy it and have a cup of tea !

The purity of water in the tea region plays an important role to tea.
In this photo, the boat seems is flying above the water because the water is so clean and clear.

Tea enlightenment today

Walking on the right path is indeed sometimes made me feel tire sometimes, because it’s not easy to keep motivating myself to swim upstream against the tide while constantly facing unspeakable challenges and frustrations for years. No matter what it’s the decision we made in the journey of searching for peace in heart.

When we decide to walk on the path of tea to promote its purity, beauty and wisdom, we know it is the right thing to do in our heart.  Because it enriches our life every time we have the chance to share the right information correctly with those who are us once upon a time with a good cup of tea.

Life is short, only when we determine to follow the right path and our heart continuously, we have no regret when we look our life backward.

With tea, we learn the virtual and wisdom of being truthful and faithful. With tea, we learn more than tea, how to brew tea but more on how to live, starting from facing and managing ourselves.
In life people can fail us, but we can’t fail ourselves.

Sheng Puerh only get Old and Aged

Why it is important to learn history and the basic tea theory when learning tea? It’s simple, so you can justify the information is true or false. For example,

A riped Puerh claimed older than 50 years, is it true or false?
False!
Facts:
  1. The  manually piling fermentation process to accelerate the post-fermentation flavour and taste of Riped Puerh (Shou Puerh) was successfully developed in 1975.  The technique was only mature for massive production in 1984.
  2. the post fermentation process can indeed transformed the color:
    1. Raw puerh (Sheng Puerh) becomes to dark color and the flavour becomes more intense,
    2. the color, flavour and taste of Riped Puerh are not same as aged Raw Puerh
  3. The color of leaves:
    1. Aged raw puerh (sheng puerh) will become dark grey olive green color;
    2. Riped puerh (shou puerh) is in dark brown or dark brownish copper color.
  4. The color of tea liquid:
    1. Raw puerh : in yellow series, i.e. yellowish amber, orange amber
    2. Riped puerh: Brownish red, wine red, dark red or even in liver brown

With years of storage and post fermentation, raw puerh (sheng puerh) remains as aged puerh but won’t become a riped puerh (Shou Puerh).
